Another mountain off Matt's wish list!

This is Matt here, cashing in my duties for posting. Fun, fun, fun ski trip last weekend. Met up with a friend from High School to climb and ski Cascade Peak. Started at 3am and made it home by noon.

I actually love these early morning climbs. You get a killer view of the sunrise and I'm home in the afternoon to play with the kids and spend time with Mary. Best of both worlds!

Mary and I have a fantastic agreement about my climbing and skiing trips. For every trip I equalize it with a date in the same month. Right now we have a max of 2-3 trips per month. But hey, I've got a good record going so far, and Mary loves all these dates, so it's a win-win. Who knows how many we could pack into a month...I'm game to find out!

The east face of Cascade Peak. This was our goal for the day, to climb and ski it.

Hiking up at 3am. It was about -5 degrees. Around 5am I was questioning whether this was a good idea or not, I was cold. But the sun finally rose and we warmed right up.

Sunrise.

We hiked up the mountain onto a broad ridge and followed the ridge toward the summit.

There were some steep sections where we had to remove our skis and climb.

We came 900 feet short of the summit. There was a cliff band and the snow was getting soft so we opted to put on the skis and get the good snow while it was still soft.

The beautiful thing about the backcountry is you always get first tracks!

Scott and I knew each other from High School and he asked if his wife could come with us. This is Scott's wife on the snowboard.

This is my favorite photo.

The snow was great the whole way down. We skied over 4,500 vertical feet over 3 miles. The last mile was rough as we hopped over boulder down the stream, but we made it home and even saw an elk and a moose.

Time out!

Our "time-out" spot is on our washing machine. It is too high for Tanner to try to hop off of (for right now anyway), and it is in the laundry room so there are no toys in sight and I can close the door, so Tanner knows he is being punished. I had the camera out taking pictures of Kate's 3 teeth grin, so I grabbed a few shots...

"Hey Tanner!"
"Huh"

Still managed to smile, even when in trouble, what a good attitude (seriously, I'm so lucky to have such an easy mannered little boy!)

K mom, I just heard the timer go off, stop taking pictures already!  LOVE this boy!

3 Teeth!

Sweet Kate has been teething quite a bit lately. She got her first tooth about 2 months ago and now has cut her top two teeth and bottom two teeth. I took this pictures a few days ago before that 2nd top tooth cut through because I LOVE her 3 teeth grin!

I finally figured out that to get her to show all 3 teeth I needed to make her laugh. I just love this little girl and her personality! She makes me laugh with her big grin. Let's hope the rest of the teeth come quickly...

Happy Valentine's Day!

This Valentine's Day, we were so grateful to be able to have Matt home with us ALL day! The kids took advantage of him being here and helped him with some arts and crafts projects.  They attempted making each other special Valentines.

Kate is completely amazed with the tape, she played with it the whole time.  Tanner, loves the scissors and cutting things.  He really cut paper the whole time rather than creating a Valentine, but I think he preferred that anyway.  As I look back on these pictures, I realize that I really, REALLY need to buy some blunt scissors for Tanner.

Sweet Kate!

Helping Daddy cut the pretty paper.

What a good helper.

Still enjoying the tape.

Still making me nervous with the scissors...

Getting annoyed with the tape getting stuck on her hand.

Getting a Valentine from daddy (and mommy finally puts the camera down and takes the scissors away)!

Proud of his Dinosaur Valentine!

Wishing you a HAPPY Valentine's Day!

One of Matt's dreams...skiing Mt. Superior!

With two winters spent in Arizona, Matt has a bulging wish list of climbing and skiing goals that he is finally getting the chance to work on. Go Matt! Here are photos of skiing Mt. Superior on Saturday.

Happy Birthday to my Sweet Boy!!

I can't believe my baby boy turned 3 today! When I asked him this morning if he felt older, he said, "No mom, I'm still little, I'm just 3." I'm glad he's still little. They grow up too fast. Today he crawled into my lap, looked up at me and gave me an eskimo kiss. That's our special thing, and it makes me sad to think that someday he'll be too old for eskimo kisses. I'll cherish it while I can.

This little boy is so bright and inquisitive. He has to know how everything works and why. Somedays his endless questions test my patience, but I never let him know it, I always want him to feel comfortable enough to ask me questions.

He loves to make people laugh.

He loves to sing. He only has to hear a song once or twice and he'll remember the words to sing along. He can "name that tune" after hearing only a few measures.

He loves trains and trucks, like diggers and bulldozers.

He loves to read, we still read to him about 20-30 minutes most nights, as long as he hasn't had that privilege taken away.

He loves the outdoors. He can't wait until he's older to go up in the mountains with daddy. You should see him scale a rock!

He's very thoughtful, and always wants us to be happy!

He is just a darling, curious 3 year old whom I ABSOLUTELY adore, and am so grateful for.

Here's some pictures of our fun day!

Thank you Mom and Dad for his train! He LOVES it, a perfect gift!

Tanner loves his Duplo Thomas the Train set that Nana gave him last year. I found a lady dumping all her sons old Thomas stuff on ebay and got a ripping deal on it. When we put it all together he said "Wow, this is the biggest train set I've ever seen!"

He was also smart enough to make the observation that these pieces didn't come in a new box like the 2 trains he got for his birthday. He asked me, "Mom, you got these on ebay didn't you?" Oh, he knows me all too well, and yeah, he doesn't miss a thing. =)

His digger cake that he helped me make. The next few pictures are him blowing out the candles!

We Love you Tanner!
